LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
The second album came back from Los Angeles to Tampa, Florida. It was recorded in April 1988 at Morrisound Recording, engineered by Scott Burns and produced by Dan Johnson, and Combat Records released it in 1988. The line-up had changed. Rick Rozz came in on guitar, Terry Butler on bass and Bill Andrews on drums, and the record is thicker than the debut, where Schuldiner had played everything himself. It is the only Death studio album Rozz played on, and the first with Andrews. "Pull the Plug", "Open Casket" and "Born Dead" keep the drive of the debut while tidying the skeleton of the songs, and the direction Schuldiner would take afterwards is visible in them. The pairing of Morrisound and Scott Burns that would become the standard for Florida death metal starts here too. The running order here is the original's as printed.
