This is the third album by the band from San Francisco, released by Anti- on 2 October 2015. It was recorded live in April 2015 by Jack Shirley, who had made Sunbather with them, at 25th Street Recording in Oakland and Atomic Garden Recording in Palo Alto, California. The cover is an oil painting by Allison Schulnik.
Five songs run to just under fifty minutes. Against the glare of the previous album this one is dark and hard. Each piece turns from a tremolo sprint into thrash metal chugging and then out again into shoegaze reverb, with Kerry McCoy's guitar making the joins. George Clarke screams as he always has, but the lower centre of gravity lets the bleakness of the words land directly.
A trailer went out on 27 July 2015, "Brought to the Water" on 18 August and "Come Back" on 15 September, and from 23 September the whole record streamed on NPR's site. It was very well received, scoring 85 on Metacritic from seventeen reviews. David Anthony of The A.V. Club wrote that it expands the confines of metal rather than breaking down its walls, and Paul Simpson of AllMusic called it a powerful, enrapturing record that crosses genre borders without effort.
