Lonely People With Power

Lonely People with Power is the sixth studio album by the American band Deafheaven, released on 28 March 2025 through Roadrunner Records. It is their first album since joining the label in 2024. Having set black metal elements aside entirely on Infinite Granite in 2021, the band return here to their usual blackgaze sound. Justin Meldal-Johnsen produced it, as he had its predecessor, and it was recorded at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. Jae Matthews of Boy Harsher and Paul Banks of Interpol contribute additional vocals. The cover photograph features the former American pornographic actress Jenna Haze. Both frontman George Clarke and guitarist Shiv Mehra have said the title is not an explicit political statement; Clarke explained to Kerrang! that power here means influence, and what it takes to reach the top. The reception was unanimous, with top-ten placings from Consequence, Decibel, Exclaim!, Kerrang! and The Ringer, while BrooklynVegan and Metal Injection named it the best album of the year. Three of the twelve tracks are short interludes titled "Incidental", the second featuring Matthews and the third Banks.
