2.1 Embryonic Period: A Fateful Encounter and Formation (2011)

The formation of CYNTIA originated from a chance encounter on the shooting set of a music video (MV). In the spring of 2011, guitarist YUI and drummer KANOKO co-starred in the promotional video (PV) shoot for the symphonic metal unit "LIV MOON." At the time, YUI was already drawing attention as a talented young guitarist, serving as a live support musician for Nanase Aikawa, acting as a spokesperson for guitar manufacturer Ibanez, and performing at the Toyota booth during the Tokyo Motor Show. Meanwhile, KANOKO was also a highly sought-after drummer handling numerous support projects. The encounter between the two naturally led to the concept of forming a "highly talented girls' metal band."

In April 2011, the band was formed centering around YUI and KANOKO. In the summer of the same year, keyboardist AYANO and bassist AIRI joined the lineup. AYANO's addition, in particular, became a crucial element that brought classical elements and complex structural beauty to CYNTIA's music.

However, selecting a vocalist to serve as the "face" of the band proved to be extremely difficult. After an extensive audition process spanning over a year, SAKI was chosen in November 2011. SAKI had a unique background as a former member of the idol group "C-ZONE." With the complete lineup, CYNTIA secured a contract with Spinning, determined by the demo tape they produced. On April 11, 2012, CYNTIA released their debut single "Run to the Future" from "Bright Star Records," a label under Spinning that was established by their scene allies Aldious.

Although this debut single was a fast-paced power metal number, its chorus presented a J-POP-style familiarity, earning high praise from metal magazines and fans alike. However, immediately after what seemed like a smooth start, the band faced a setback when bassist AIRI temporarily suspended her activities due to poor health and officially left the band in June of the same year.

Without halting their activities, the band welcomed AZU as a support bassist. AZU was a former member of the girls' rock band "LAZYgunsBRISKY." In 2013, CYNTIA took a monumental step in the Japanese girls' metal scene. They signed with major record label Victor Entertainment (Colourful Records) and made their major debut on March 20 with their 2nd album "Lady Made." This was the first major-label advancement for a band originating from the "Jo-Metal Boom," greatly contributing to raising the status of the entire scene. The album reached number 23 on the Oricon chart.

In July of the same year, they released the single "Return to Myself ~Shinai, Shinai, Natsu.~," a cover of Mari Hamada's classic hit.
