LANGUAGE
The tour behind the previous album, Blasphemy Made Flesh, left the band in financial trouble. Singer Lord Worm has described it: they rented a vehicle and paid for it, paid for the petrol, the food, the space, everything, and whatever the merchandise brought in went straight back into more merchandise. The money went to Cryptopsy as an entity rather than to the musicians. The second album made in that condition is discussed as both technical and brutal death metal. William York of AllMusic called it almost entirely relentless, and Joe DiVita of Loudwire said it sounds almost as if two albums were being played on top of one another. Kerrang! described it as technical without being bloated, blasphemous without being cheesy, and brutal without being predictable. It is the first record with bassist Eric Langlois and the last with Lord Worm singing; he did not return until Once Was Not in 2005. Kevin Stewart-Panko of Decibel called his work here the most artful use of the death growl ever put on record. The running order here is the original's as printed.
