The Guessing Game (Rethink)

The Guessing Game (Rethink) is Cathedral's ninth album, first released by Nuclear Blast in 2010, remixed from the original masters for a Rise Above Records release on 30 October 2026. The 2010 record, the band's first double album, was produced by Warren Riker, and while the band were happy with the production, they had always found the original mix a little lacklustre. With the recording rights back in their hands, they went back to the masters to make the album sound the way they had wanted it to at the time. The remix is by Jaime Gomez Arellano, the long-time collaborator who mixed The Last Spire and came across Society's Pact With Satan among his old recordings, and it was done in Portugal. The label describes the new mix as more cohesive, stripped down, raw and powerful, and Lee Dorrian has said the album now sounds heavier and closer to how the band originally meant it to. Alternate takes and unedited versions are included: "Death Of An Anarchist" now carries the outro missing from the 2010 version and runs 8:41 against 7:12. The tenth track, "La Noche del Buque Maldito (aka Ghost Ship of the Blind Dead)" in 2010, is listed here as "Ghost Galleon". It comes on three LPs with music across five sides, with a large poster and a lyric insert (100 copies on clear vinyl, 100 on white and 400 on black), as a double CD in a slipcase with an insert and a fold-out poster, and as a 24-bit/96kHz download on Bandcamp. Rise Above Records released the video for "Death Of An Anarchist (Rethink)" on 2 October 2026.
