Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges is the thirteenth album, which shows calm shading beyond mere glamour while keeping Bon Jovi's big melodies and rock frame. After Richie Sambora's departure, Phil X newly joined on guitar alongside Jon Bon Jovi (vocals), Tico Torres (drums), David Bryan (keyboards) and Hugh McDonald (bass). It is also a transitional work that closed out their longtime record deal. Because of a construction combining unreleased songs and new material, even the up-tempo songs have a somewhat reflective air. The drive of "Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning" and the frankness of the title track mirror a band in the midst of change. Rather than aiming for flashy hits, it has the feel of looking at their present selves at a milestone in a long career.
