Liner Notes
Worship Music is a moving comeback on which Anthrax, combining sharp thrash riffs, bouncing groove and dignified choruses, beautifully unites tradition and modernity. On this record, on which the flagship Joey Belladonna dramatically returned to the band as regular vocalist after about twenty years, it became a long-awaited record for fans. Even in fiercely running passages, the songs always value melody and its development, by no means ending as merely high-speed playing.
From the development from the opening intro to “Earth on Hell” and the powerful “Fight ’Em Til You Can’t” to the drama of “The Devil You Know,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “In the End” and “I’m Alive” convey the work’s fullness. With Belladonna’s high, piercing, catchy voice back, the band’s own sure brightness and memorability strongly come to the fore. A whole-hearted restart that powerfully proved that, even after a long time, the golden-age appeal Anthrax holds has not faded in the least. Achieving great critical and commercial success, it powerfully opened the band’s second golden age. A moving, engaging masterpiece that realized the great joy of Belladonna’s return — a record announcing the band’s full revival.
