『Human Nature』は、HAREM SCAREMがハリー・ヘスの豊かな歌、ピート・レスペランスの流麗なギター、そして精密なリズムを巧みに組み合わせた、再結成期の充実を示す第10作だ。バンドが得意とする、メロディック・ハード・ロックの明快さを保ちながらも、楽曲には、より硬質なリフや、複雑で洗練されたニュアンスも、積極的に取り入れられている。円熟したバンドの、新たな充実を告げる一枚である。 冒頭の表題曲“Human Nature”の力強い推進力、キャッチーな“Next Time Around”、そして“Reality”の叙情まで、収録曲はいずれも聴き応えがある。“Hanging On”“Starlight”のような曲も、バンドの豊かなメロディ・センスを伝えている。強く印象的なサビと、技巧的で緻密な演奏とが、極めて自然に結び付いており、聴くたびに、細部の工夫が新たに見えてくる。 再結成後のバンドが、曲作りと演奏の、その両面において、依然として非常に高い水準を維持していることを、力強く証明した一枚だ。かつての名作群に比べても、全く遜色のない完成度を誇っている。ベテランとなってなお、その創作意欲と実力が、少しも衰えていないことを示した、充実したメロディック・ハード・ロック作品と言える。

Human Nature is the tenth album showing the fullness of the reunion period, on which Harem Scarem deftly combines Harry Hess’s rich singing, Pete Lesperance’s fluid guitar and precise rhythm. Keeping the clarity of the melodic hard rock the band does best, it actively takes in harder riffs and complex, refined nuances too. A record announcing a new fullness of the mature band. From the powerful drive of the opening title track “Human Nature” and the catchy “Next Time Around” to the lyricism of “Reality,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Hanging On” and “Starlight” convey the band’s rich melodic sense. Strong, striking choruses and technical, precise playing bind extremely naturally, and with each listen, the details of the craft come newly into view. A record powerfully proving that, after the reunion, the band still maintains a very high standard in both songwriting and playing. It boasts a polish by no means inferior to the masterpieces of old. Showing that, even as veterans, their creative drive and ability have not dimmed in the least, it is a fulfilling melodic-hard-rock work.
