『Hardcore Superstar』は、硬いギター、低いグルーヴ、ヨッケ・ベルグの荒々しい歌を軸にしたセルフタイトル作だ。グラムの派手さを残しながら、リフはより重く、演奏はモダンな押し出しを持っている。初期のパンク／グラム路線から一転、よりヘヴィで硬派なサウンドへと生まれ変わった、バンドの転機となる一枚である。 “We Don't Celebrate Sundays”“Wild Boys”“Kick on the Upperclass”といった楽曲では、荒いロック曲にも大きなフックがあり、危険な雰囲気と親しみやすさが同居している。とりわけ“We Don't Celebrate Sundays”は、バンドを代表する人気曲となった。“Hateful”“Blood on Me”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“She's Offbeat”“My Good Reputation”“Standin' on the Verge”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。セルフタイトルを冠したことからもバンドがこの作品にかけた並々ならぬ意気込みがうかがえ、本作の成功によりバンドはヨーロッパのシーンで確固たる地位を築いた。HARDCORE SUPERSTARのヘヴィな個性を明快に示した本作は、彼らの新たな出発点となった重要作である。

Hardcore Superstar is a self-titled work centered on hard guitar, low groove and Jocke Berg’s rough singing. While keeping glam flamboyance, the riffs are heavier and the playing has a modern push. Turning from the early punk/glam direction, it is a turning-point record on which they were reborn into a heavier, harder-nosed sound. On “We Don't Celebrate Sundays,” “Wild Boys” and “Kick on the Upperclass,” even the rough rock songs have big hooks, with a dangerous atmosphere and accessibility coexisting. In particular, “We Don't Celebrate Sundays” became a signature crowd favorite. Songs like “Hateful” and “Blood on Me” breathe the band’s full playing too. Clearly showing HARDCORE SUPERSTAR’s heavy personality, it is an important work that became their new starting point.
