Legend of the Shadowking is a work on which FREEDOM CALL brought together bright, driving melody, sing-along choruses and a fantastical worldview. Placing speed and elation forward, they also built narrative undulation into the long flow. It is an ambitious record on which the band took on a grand concept. On “Out of the Ruins,” “Thunder God” and “The Shadowking,” positive power-metal energy can be enjoyed together with a grand concept. Songs like “Merlin - Legend of the Past” and “Resurrection Day” breathe the band’s full expressiveness too. Subjects such as Arthurian legend and Bavarian King Ludwig II color a dramatic story. Balancing festive energy and narrative quality, it is a full record.
