『Have a Nice Day』は、太いギター、親しみやすい歌メロ、そしてジョン・ボン・ジョヴィの、まっすぐで力強い歌を中心に据えた作品だ。前作『Bounce』でのモダンな試みを経て、よりバンドらしい、王道のアリーナ・ロックへと回帰している。力強いロック曲の勢いと、心温まるバラードの温かさとが、バランス良く並び、幅広い感情を、分かりやすく力強いフックへと、見事にまとめ上げている。 冒頭の、反骨的な表題曲“Have a Nice Day”の力強い推進力、キャッチーな“I Want to Be Loved”、そして、カントリー歌手ジェニファー・ネトルズとのデュエットで、カントリー・チャートでも大ヒットした“Who Says You Can't Go Home”まで、収録曲はいずれも聴き応えがある。“Welcome to Wherever You Are”“Last Man Standing”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。 長年培ってきた、バンドの様式を、しっかりと保ちながらも、楽曲は、現代的で洗練された輪郭と、前向きで力強い活力とを、確かに備えている点が本作の魅力だ。とりわけ“Who Says You Can't Go Home”の成功は、後の『Lost Highway』での、カントリー路線への足がかりともなった。BON JOVIらしい、確かな大衆性と、芯の強さとを、存分に感じられる、力強く充実した一枚と言える。

Have a Nice Day is a work centered on thick guitar, accessible vocal melody and Jon Bon Jovi’s straight, powerful singing. After the modern attempt of the previous Bounce, it returns to a more band-like, straight-path arena rock. From the powerful drive of the rebellious title track “Have a Nice Day” and the catchy “I Want to Be Loved” to “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” a duet with country singer Jennifer Nettles that was a big hit on the country chart too, every song is engaging, while cuts like “Welcome to Wherever You Are” and “Last Man Standing” convey the work’s fullness. Its appeal is that, while firmly keeping the band’s long-cultivated style, the songs surely hold a modern, refined outline and positive, powerful vitality.
