For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was Van Halen's ninth studio album, released in the summer of 1991: it entered the US chart at number one, held the top for three weeks, went triple platinum, gave the Sammy Hagar line-up — Hagar on vocals, Eddie Van Halen on guitar, Alex Van Halen on drums and Michael Anthony on bass — a third consecutive American number one, and won the band their only Grammy.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was Van Halen's ninth studio album, released in the summer of 1991: it entered the US chart at number one, held the top for three weeks, went triple platinum, gave the Sammy Hagar line-up — Hagar on vocals, Eddie Van Halen on guitar, Alex Van Halen on drums and Michael Anthony on bass — a third consecutive American number one, and won the band their only Grammy. The expanded edition is a five-disc set of two CDs, a Blu-ray and two LPs, remastered by Bernie Grundman, who also cut the lacquers for the vinyl. The second CD adds previously unreleased alternate versions of "Right Now" and "The Dream Is Over" and eleven unreleased live recordings from the West End Marketplace in Dallas, Texas on 4 December 1991; the Blu-ray carries that concert as film along with four video clips. The two LPs spread the album across three sides and leave the fourth as a Van Halen logo etching with no audio. Rhino released it on 12 July 2024 and Warner Music Japan followed on 24 July with a limited Japanese version of the import, WPZR-31015/19.
