Crown of Thorns is an album by The Crown, the Swedish death/thrash metal band formed in 1990, and their first studio record in three years since Royal Destroyer (2021). They are spoken of alongside The Haunted and At the Gates, are best known for records such as Deathrace King, and have toured Japan twice. Cobra Speed Venom brought them back to their old label Metal Blade in 2018, and the title here is the name the band used before they became The Crown. The writing digs back into the melodic death metal of their early years and sets it against the death/thrash they play now, recorded by a line-up that has Marcus Sunesson, there at the beginning, back on lead guitar. Jonas Kjellgren, formerly of Scar Symmetry, mixed and mastered it. Metal Blade released it on 11 October 2024 and Marquee Inc. issued the Japanese edition, MICP-11919, on 23 October, adding Hunger (2024) as a bonus track for eleven in all.
