LINER NOTES
Yusyuroku - Susano, written 「憂愁録 - 素戔嗚」 in Japanese, is a four-track EP by the Tokyo Japanesque Metal band Rakshasa and the first record they made after coming back in 2026, four years after splitting up. Yama, who has long led the elegiac black metal band Ethereal Sin, founded Rakshasa in October 2015, and with Yuri, formerly of Albion, at the microphone it released the album 「六道羅刹」 in July 2017, the EP 「憂愁録 - 月読」 in March 2018 and the album 「百花創生」 in February 2021. The band ended with a one-man show at Shinjuku Wild Side Tokyo on 23 July 2022, and the next day put Hyakka Sousei : Another Story, an English-language version of its second album with two unreleased songs, on sale as a download from its website. On 12 July 2025 a one-night cover band, Rakshasa of Fire, played the band's songs at the same venue to mark thirty years of Yama's life in music, with Yuri, Yama and the band's first drummer in its ranks. Rakshasa came back as a single-guitar band, its guitarist a player who had also been working with Yuri in another group, and diskunion's notice of the release-day signing at its Ochanomizu metal shop named five members, the original drummer among them. On the EP, Yama composed the first three pieces and that guitarist the fourth; Yuri wrote all the lyrics, and the arrangements are credited to the band. The four pieces draw on Japanese culture from antiquity to the Taisho era: 「葦原に吹く風」, an instrumental led in by shamisen, the fast title song 「素戔嗚」, the darker, melodic 「夜叉ヶ池」 and the ballad 「戀文」. The CD, RADC-165 on RADTONE MUSIC, is dated 7 October 2026 and runs about 16 minutes; the band's trailer names FABTONE as the company releasing it. That trailer appeared on 2 October 2026 on the YouTube channel of Evoken de Valhall Production, which also carries the band's 2018 videos, and an early sale of the CD was announced for the release show at Ueno Otoyokocho on 3 October.
