The Last Will and Testament is the fourteenth Opeth album and their first studio record in five years. It is a concept album set in the years after the First World War, its story turning on the reading of a will, and every track but the last is titled only with a section mark and a number. Mikael Akerfeldt brought back the growled vocals he had set aside for well over a decade, and strings and harp are woven through the arrangements. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull contributes narration and flute, and Joey Tempest of Europe sings backing vocals; Waltteri Vayrynen, formerly of Paradise Lost, plays drums. Ward Records released the Japanese editions on 22 November 2024, the single CD as GQCS-91518 and a two-disc set with a documentary Blu-ray as GQCS-91516, on the same day as the rest of the world and later than the 11 October date first announced.
