Origins of Aggression

Origins of Aggression is a double album by Onslaught: the first disc re-records songs from the band's early years, the second collects covers of the records that shaped them. The English band formed in 1982 out of hardcore punk, and Power from Hell (1985) is still spoken of as a crossover landmark; The Force moved them fully into thrash the following year, and In Search of Sanity (1989) was made with the late Steve Grimmett singing. They split in 1991, returned in 2004, and have released albums steadily since Killing Peace in 2007. The covers take in Motörhead, Dead Kennedys, Discharge, The Exploited, Judas Priest, Killing Joke, GBH, the Sex Pistols, UK Subs and Black Sabbath. Sy Keeler, who sang on The Force, guests, as do Jason McMaster of Watchtower and Dangerous Toys and a member of the Japanese thrash band United; Jacob Hansen mastered it. On the new version of the title track of In Search of Sanity, Reigning Phoenix Music quote the band saying it had long been their wish to re-record that album, which had never sounded to them the way an Onslaught record should. Released worldwide and in Japan on 23 May 2025, the Japanese edition on Ward Records as GQCS-91614.
