Ecce Mundus

Liva formed in Sherbrooke, Quebec in 1997 and call what they do symphonic power metal opera. The band is Nadine Guertin on soprano voice, Pier Carlo Liva on death vocals, tenor, guitars and electronics, Martin Tremblay on bass and Claude Lacroix on drums, with Philippe Leblanc joining on drums after the record was made. Ecce Mundus is their fourth album, nine pieces built around Latin titles. Each of their records has chosen its own language and subject: Requiem in 2002 set a heavy metal requiem to Latin text, De Insulis in 2007 took Latin verse by Alain de Lille, the twelfth-century French poet and theologian, and Human Abstract in 2013 was written in English. Pier Carlo Liva, who composes for the band, calls this the most ambitious thing he has done since Requiem. Liva have opened for Voivod, Gorguts, Nightwish, Kataklysm, Therion, Leaves' Eyes and Kamelot, and in March 2003 they won the MIMI de l'artiste le plus avant-gardiste, a prize for artists who break past the boundaries of genre and language.
