LINER NOTES
Descent is the twelfth studio album by IMMOLATION, the death metal band from Yonkers in New York State, and Nuclear Blast released it on 10 April 2026 as the successor to Acts of God from 2022. In the band's own description it takes them a further step from their rejection of Catholicism towards Gnostic dread, following empires that fail, wars that never end and the decay of the human soul. Dan Lilker, the bassist known from Anthrax and Nuclear Assault, sings as a guest on "Host" and on the closing title track, and Robert Vigna directed all three videos: "Adversary" in January 2026, "Attrition" in March and "Bend Towards The Dark" on the day of release. Justin Passamonte recorded the guitars, bass and vocals at Jpass Music and Noah Buchanan the drums at Mercinary Studios; the band produced the album with Zack Ohren, their engineer of many years, who also mixed and mastered it. Eliran Kantor made the cover once again, and Santiago Jaramillo of Triple Seis Design drew the booklet illustrations. The group began as Rigor Mortis in 1986, took the name Immolation in 1988 and released its debut, Dawn of Possession, in 1991; Ross Dolan on bass and vocals, Robert Vigna and Alex Bouks on guitars and Steve Shalaty on drums made this record. This CD is Nuclear Blast's European edition, catalogue number NB 7590-2, with ten tracks, and the jewel-case CD sold by the label's American store, NB 7590-3, has the same ten; there are vinyl editions as well. Kevin Stewart-Panko's Into Everlasting Fire, published in 2024, is the band's official history.
