Tokyo Live

Tokyo Live documents the concert at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo on 11 May 2024. The import came out on Music Theories Recordings on 25 April 2025 as a two-CD-plus-DVD set, and the Japanese edition on King Records on 18 June as a two-disc Blu-spec CD2 (KICP-4104/5, JAN 4988003652296). The CDs hold thirty items running about an hour and thirty-three minutes. The visit was part of the world tour marking Malmsteen's fortieth year. The range covered is unusually wide. It opens on the title track of the 1984 debut Rising Force and returns to that album for 'Far Beyond the Sun'. "I'll See the Light Tonight" comes from Marching Out the following year, "You Don't Remember I'll Never Forget" from Trilogy, and 'Now Your Ships Are Burned' from Odyssey. Against those sit recent songs — 'Relentless Fury', '(Si Vis Pacem) Parabellum' and 'Wolves at the Door' from 2021's Parabellum — plus 'Hiroshima Mon Amour' from his time in Alcatrazz and a cover of Deep Purple's 'Smoke on the Water'. Short instrumental pieces are scattered right through: 'Toccata', 'Adagio', 'Badinere', "Paganini's 4th" and two cadenzas, which is exactly how the stage was laid out.
