LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the last recording made by the founding line-up of the Brooklyn band. Drummer Sal Abruscato left at the end of 1993 and joined their labelmates Life of Agony.
Two songs from it became the band's best known: "Christian Woman" and "Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)". The second is a sardonic piece about goth girls and the black hair dye that marks them, built on an ex-girlfriend of Peter Steele's. What runs through the whole record is Steele's low baritone and a dry, satirical handling of sex, religion, self-image and death. Decibel described the album as made of catchy doom-pop, sarcastic hardcore and strange noise interludes.
Two habits settle here and became the band's shape afterwards: re-recording other people's songs in their own style, and placing sample-heavy sound pieces between them. The liner notes carry a dedication written by Steele himself. The RIAA certified the record gold in November 1995 and platinum in December 2000. The running order here is the original's as printed.
