The Enduring Spirit

The Enduring Spirit is the fourth studio album by the Canadian band Tomb Mold, released digitally on 15 September 2023 through 20 Buck Spin. Physical copies followed on 13 October. It is their first studio release in four years, after Planetary Clairvoyance of 2019. The band announced it on 11 September 2023, only four days before it appeared. It was recorded at Boxcar Sound Recording with help from their long-time collaborator Sean Pearson, and Arthur Rizk mixed and mastered it. In a statement the band said they had spent the previous three years spiralling in the cycle of reincarnate necessity and that the myriad of consciousness had now aggregated into one, inviting listeners to dive into the gnashing current of the new record. It was described as an expansion of the sound of their June 2022 EP Aperture of Body. Two listening parties were held in Toronto and Montreal to promote it, and the cover reproduces a painting by Jesse Jacobi. The reception was strong: 85 out of 100 on Metacritic from four reviews, indicating universal acclaim, and Brad Sanders at Pitchfork called it the band's best. Seven songs, the last of which, "The Enduring Spirit of Calamity", carries the title. The order here is the seven tracks of the American CD, 20 Buck Spin SPIN200.
