Liner Notes
.5: The Gray Chapter is Slipknot's reactivation album, on which they carved anger and a sense of loss with heavy riffs and an ominous atmosphere. The album is dedicated to bassist Paul Gray, who died in 2010. The ".5" in the title layers the fact that it is their fifth album with a tribute to the late Gray. It is the first record under a new lineup, with him and drummer Joey Jordison absent. Much of the songwriting was centered on Corey Taylor and Jim Root. On this record, their first in six years, the band overcame deep loss and began to move again.
Varied songs like "The Devil in I," "Custer" and "Killpop" line up. Even after loss, the anger and ferocity at the band's core remained intact. Alessandro Venturella (bass) and Jay Weinberg (drums) newly joined. The album reached No. 1 in the US and in various other countries. A powerful comeback record that turned grief into strength. The album reached the Top 5 in nineteen countries, showing the world once more that they were still a vital force. A record that sublimated the pain of loss into sound as powerful as could be.
