Liner Notes
Brave the Storm is a work on which SHY, centered on Tony Mills’s high, soaring singing and Steve Harris’s melodic guitar, built refined hard rock. The keyboard color is gorgeous, but at the center of the songs a characteristically British pathos remains. Advancing a step from the debut, it is the second album that further polished the band’s sound.
Powerful choruses and delicate melody coexist, and the album has a consistent grace. Tony Mills’s high-toned vocals already show high expressiveness at this point. Within a bright 1980s sound, they carve a sure melodic sense. It is a record that valued the beauty of melody and the care of arrangement over flashiness. It is a work that shows steady progress connecting to the leap on the next album. It is a record on which the appeal of British melodic rock can be savored slowly.
