Leave a Whisper

Leave a Whisper is the debut album by Shinedown, from Jacksonville, Florida, binding weighty guitar with earnest singing. The band was formed by vocalist Brent Smith in 2001, and this record was made with the early lineup of guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart and drummer Barry Kerch. Released on Atlantic, it balances post-grunge weight with melodic choruses, presenting a dramatic American rock. The lead single "Fly from the Inside" became the band's first hit, and "45" and "Burning Bright" also gained wide popularity. The 2004 reissue added a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man," which became one of the band's foremost signature songs. Smith's expressive, powerful voice held firm presence from the very start. The album earned platinum certification and, along with vigorous touring, spread the name of Shinedown. Binding emotional weight with big melody, it is a powerful starting point.
