Repulsion's only album took three years to get from the session to the shops. It was recorded in June 1986 in Larry Hennessy's basement studio in Flint, Michigan, for three hundred dollars, over three or four days. It first went out as a demo called Slaughter of the Innocent, drew no label interest, and the band broke up that September.
The tape then spread through the trading networks, and in July 1989 Necrosis Records — an Earache sublabel run by Carcass's Bill Steer and Jeff Walker — gave it an official release under its present title and artwork. What is on it puts thrash, death metal and hardcore punk together over blast beats, with lyrics taken from horror films and comics.
Scott Carlson and Matt Olivo, who played on it, had left Death in the mid-1980s to start the band. Both grindcore and death metal have gone on naming the record as a point of origin. The running order here is the original's as printed.
