Mutter

From September to December 1999 the band rented a house called Weimar at Heiligendamm on the Baltic coast for pre-production. The recording itself was done in May and June 2000 at Studio Miraval in the south of France. "Links 2 3 4" was put on their website as a download in December 2000, and the single "Sonne" followed in January 2001. The sleeve is a photograph of a dead foetus by Daniel and Geo Fuchs. Bobo sings on "Nebel" and Till Lindemann's daughter Khira Li Lindemann adds a voice to "Spieluhr"; Olsen Involtini arranged the strings on "Mein Herz brennt", "Mutter" and "Nebel". Besides the ordinary CD there was a German vinyl pressing, a digipak for export and, in the United States, a two-disc edition with the "Sonne" video and the song "Halleluja". The Japanese pressing hides "Halleluja" two minutes after the last track. A later limited tour edition kept the same cover in red and added a second disc of four live recordings. In 2005 Rock Hard placed the album at number 324 in The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time. The running order here is the original's as printed.
