Welcome to the Other Side adds complex structures and shadowed melody to RAGE’s hard riffs and power-metal drive. The songs do not escape into simple speed; they carefully build tension scene by scene, and Peavy Wagner’s distinctive voice lends human urgency to the heavy themes. Alongside cuts that pair aggression with hooks, such as “Trauma” and “Paint the Devil On the Wall,” the multi-part suite titled “Tribute to Dishonour” develops its drama across several sections, and the range extends through songs like “Straight to Hell” and “Sister Demon.” Pursuing technique and feeling at once, it shows RAGE’s many sides well. The appeal here is that the band’s identity refuses to sit in one fixed mold, rising in three dimensions through the placement and flow of each song. The tension in songs like “Point of No Return” and “Riders On the Moonlight” is striking — a strong record uniting power metal and a progressive sense at a high level.
