LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the sixth album by the one-man project Austin Lunn began in Louisville, Kentucky in 2007. Nordvis Produktion of Sweden released it on 15 October 2015. Lunn writes everything and plays every instrument on the records; other musicians join only for concerts.
The base is black metal, but bluegrass and Appalachian folk come in carrying equal weight. Banjo, fiddle, bells and acoustic guitar sound alongside the tremolo guitars, and on 2012's Kentucky that combination drew attention together with lyrics about the coal industry and the people of that state. Regional folk musicians guest on this record too.
The writing often reaches for environmentalist philosophers and for anarchist thinkers, and it has taken on subjects as specific as the foster care system, the subjugation of Native Americans and blue-collar labour policy. Here the subject is Lunn's own life outdoors: from "Tamarack's Gold Returns" to "The Wind's Farewell" the record follows the land through a single autumn. The order is the eight tracks of the original gatefold pressing.
