Liner Notes
Afterlife is Nocturnal Rites' fourth album, on which they crystallized the drive and powerful choruses of Nordic metal. It is the first album with new vocalist Jonny Lindkvist, whose soaring, powerful voice gives the band a new face. They stepped into a darker, heavier, riff-centered style than before. Lindkvist, a former frontman of Mogg, greatly changed the band's sound with his arrival. The album was recorded at Tonteknik Studio in their hometown of Umeå.
Hard-edged drive reminiscent of Riot's Thundersteel coexists with memorable choruses. From the opening title track "Afterlife" to "Wake Up Dead" and "Hellenium," incisive songs line up. Under Eskil Lövström's production, double bass and riffs push forward powerfully. A standout that announces the dawn of the Lindkvist era. After its release, the band toured Europe with the likes of Iron Savior. From this album on, Nocturnal Rites would advance toward a more aggressive, modern metal sound.
