Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism

This is the sixteenth Napalm Death album, released on 18 September 2020 by Century Media. Five years had passed since Apex Predator - Easy Meat of 2015, their longest gap between records. The line-up is Barney Greenway on lead vocals, Shane Embury on bass, uncredited guitars, backing vocals and noises, Danny Herrera on drums and Mitch Harris on guitars. Russ Russell produced, recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered the whole thing, and made some of the noises himself; the grindcore speed is untouched while the sound around it is built wider than before. Metal Hammer named it the second best metal album of 2020. The running order here is the twelve tracks of the European CD, Century Media 19439763892. The book-format CD issued the same day (19439763882) and the digital edition both carry fifteen songs and the Japanese edition (Trooper Entertainment QATE-10125) sixteen, all of them with bonus tracks; the 12-inch LP has thirteen, adding one song the CD does not have.
