LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the fourth album by the Tunisian band, released on 19 February 2016. The title is simply what the band's own name, Myrath, means in English. It had first been planned for 12 February.
By their account they were already thinking about its successor, Shehili, while making it, and songs on the two records connect. "Believer" has been described as a song for people who doubt, who are frightened, who want to give up, who are suffering. Its video was funded by a crowdfunding campaign and cost 45,000 euros, with two Game of Thrones producers hired to shoot it. The original idea was to get away from what the band called Tunisian cliches; when the local authorities did not answer their requests to film in certain places, they changed the concept.
Dave Ling of Metal Hammer praised the blend and wrote that the traditional Middle Eastern element does not diminish the record's standing as metal, concluding that it is not for everyone but that adventurous listeners will love it. Chris Martin, writing for My Global Mind, called it a brilliant spectacle of melodic progressive metal with Arabic keyboard washes and vocal melodies, their best album and a possible record of the year. The order here is the standard eleven tracks; the American edition carries twelve and the Japanese one (KICP-1767) thirteen with two karaoke versions.
