The Art of Partying

The band began writing this record at the end of 2006, after an American tour with Gwar. Their first two albums had been produced by Nick Poulos, later their guitarist; this time they brought in the experienced producer Zeuss, who managed to join the band's live energy and their playing to a "sonic clarity" the earlier records had not had. The cover art, in Metal Hammer's words, "contains zombies and vomit" — the band's own visual rendering of the song "Chemically Altered". A limited edition came out at the same time with two bonus tracks and a woven patch. The video for "Headbanger Face Rip" was filmed with the independent B-movie house Troma Entertainment and uses footage from Troma films including The Toxic Avenger and its sequels; a video for "Sadistic Magician" followed. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic wrote that "The Art of Partying's modern, ultra-thrash intensity still helps to identify it as a product of the 2000s, not the '80s, and Municipal Waste boast enough songwriting imagination to comfortably refute the inevitable copycat claims." In June 2020 it was inducted into the Decibel Hall of Fame, the magazine noting that it "defined 'party thrash' in the new millennium". The running order here is the original's as printed.
