Powertrip

After the tour behind Dopes to Infinity, Dave Wyndorf flew to Las Vegas to write the next album. He took a hotel room about ten miles outside the city and wrote one song a day for twenty-one days. Most of what came out takes the city itself as its subject — naked women, people losing their money. The tenth track, "Tractor", is the one piece here that is not new: it is a re-recording of a song from the 1990 EP Monster Magnet. Matt Hyde engineered and mixed, Randy Staub and John Travis also mixed, and Stephen Marcussen mastered. "Space Lord" took off, and the album became the band's largest commercial success. It reached number one on the Heatseekers chart, 21 in Germany, 65 in Britain and 97 on the Billboard 200, and the RIAA certified it gold on 25 January 1999. Videos were made for "Space Lord", "Powertrip" and "See You in Hell". The running order here is the original's as printed.
