Metallica (Remastered Deluxe Box Set) marks thirty years of METALLICA's fifth studio album, the self-titled record known as the Black Album, released in 1991. The band's own Blackened Recordings issued the remaster in a limited deluxe box on 10 September 2021, the same day as The Metallica Blacklist, a tribute album by fifty-three artists, and the press release presents the album as Grammy-winning and certified sixteen times platinum.
The album comes on two 180-gram LPs, with a "Sad But True" picture disc and vinyl of the Wembley Stadium show of 20 April 1992 and the Tushino Airfield show in Moscow of 28 September 1991, and then fourteen CDs and six DVDs. The CDs hold the remastered album, two discs of interviews by David Fricke and Steffan Chirazi, the 1990 riff tapes and demos, rehearsals, rough and alternate mixes, Day on the Green in Oakland in 1991, Sacramento in January 1992 and Mannheim in May 1993; the DVDs carry outtakes from A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica and live footage from 1991 to 1993. A 120-page hardcover book is in the box too; the CDs carry 183 tracks.
