LINER NOTES

From Zero is the eighth album, the first full-length by a new lineup, re-presenting the impulse at the band's core in a contemporary outline. After Chester Bennington's death and a seven-year hiatus, the band restarted with Emily Armstrong on vocals and Colin Brittain on drums. Mike Shinoda produced, returning to the origins of nu metal and rap rock while weaving in elements from the experimental period. The title refers to the band's precursor "Xero" and to a fresh start from zero.
The lead single "The Emptiness Machine" declares the start of the new lineup with a powerful riff and chorus, and "Heavy Is the Crown" and "Two Faced" carry intense drive. Rough guitar, cold electronics and the contrast of rap and melody clash within short, concentrated songs. While including references to the past, the record faces forward, not back. Topping the charts in more than ten countries, it is a record that spoke of a restart through the urgency of the sound itself.
