Liner Notes
Untouchables is a fulfilling work on which Korn, layering low, undulating heavy bass, heavy guitar and electronic texture extremely precisely, splendidly built a gloomy, huge sound. Made over a long production period and with an enormous budget, this work is greatly characterized by its precise, refined sound. Jonathan Davis’s singing, freely moving between fierce anger and deep fragility, powerfully foregrounds the songs’ unstable emotion. A more weighty, experimental record.
From the aggression of the powerful popular opener “Here to Stay” and the drama of “Make Believe” to the catchy popular “Thoughtless,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Blame” and “Hollow Life” convey the work’s fullness. In particular, “Here to Stay” and “Thoughtless” became popular songs representing this period. A record on which the repetition of hard, powerful rhythm and widely spreading choruses generate both claustrophobia and openness powerfully at once. It powerfully advances nu-metal’s weight into a more precise, dark expression. Not only pure aggression but the polish of its outstanding production is highly praised. A powerful, engaging masterpiece showing Korn’s mature expression — a record where the band’s deepening shines.
