Give Me Your Soul...Please was the band's twelfth studio album and its first since The Puppet Master in 2003. King Diamond himself wrote his songs between December 2005 and February 2006 and recorded the basic tracks in his basement; Andy La Rocque composed six of the thirteen, "Never Ending Hill" among them, while every lyric is King Diamond's. The album was recorded at Los Angered Recording in Gothenburg, Nomad Recording Studios in Dallas and Solnasound Recording in Sweden, produced by King Diamond, La Rocque and J.T. Longoria, and mixed by the singer and La Rocque in Dallas. The line-up was King Diamond on vocals and keyboards, La Rocque on guitar and keyboards, Mike Wead on guitar, Hal Patino on bass and Matt Thompson on drums, with additional vocals by Livia Zita. The story follows the ghosts of a dead girl and her little brother, who fears he is bound for Hell; she goes to a house to find another soul to take his place. King Diamond wrote it in the present tense, so that it unfolds as one listens. The cover is a painting by Teemu Vedenoja that the singer had bought long before, originally titled My Mother's Eyes; for the album the eyeballs in the girl's hands were removed and a frame taken from his own hallway mirror was added, so that the girl in the bloody dress appears as a reflection. Metal Blade Records released the album in North America on 26 June 2007, and Massacre Records issued it in Germany on 29 June. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 174 on the chart of 14 July 2007 and reached No. 28 in Sweden and No. 25 in Finland. "Never Ending Hill" was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008. A video for "Give Me Your Soul", the band's first in seventeen years, was shot in September 2007 and first shown on MTV in February 2008, while a North American tour set for March to May 2008 had been cancelled in November 2007 over the singer's herniated disc. Metal Blade's July 2026 announcement still called it the band's most recent album.
