LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the sixth solo album by the Norwegian musician Vegard Sverre Tveitan, known as Ihsahn of Emperor. Candlelight Records and Spinefarm Records released it in April 2016 together with his own Mnemosyne Productions.
He is one of the people black metal came from, and yet his solo records have always given classical, industrial and progressive rock elements the same weight as the metal. This one continues that: screaming and clear singing, hard sprints and quiet keyboard passages trade places from song to song. The Arctic of the title sits in the music less as cold than as width and absence.
Einar Solberg of Leprous sings as a guest on the opening "Disassembled" and on "Celestial Violence", which closes the standard edition. The CD came as a ten-track standard pressing and an eleven-track limited edition; the Japanese release (QATE-10087) also carries eleven. A double LP followed on 15 April.
