Liner Notes
Big Bang Theory is a work on which Harem Scarem, while basing itself on its former melodic hard rock, steps still deeper into a harder, more modern guitar texture. The strength of the choruses the band does best is firmly kept, yet a deeper, more complex shading than before drifts through the whole. A record actively taking in the modern rock sound of the late 1990s.
From the heavy drive of the opener “So Blind” and the power of “Climb the Gate” to the aggression of “Reload,” every song unites hard guitar riffs and sure songcraft, while cuts like “Tables Turning” and “Turn Around” convey the band’s new attempts. A clear stance seeking to unite the accessibility of the singing and the weight of the riffs is seen. Born in the band’s transitional period after a dark, experimental direction and aiming for a new fusion of modern heaviness and the band’s native melodic sense, including its challenging content that drew mixed views, it is proof that Harem Scarem, not resting in the era, kept seeking new expression. An ambitious, engaging work where hardness and songcraft intersect.
