Liner Notes
Freedom Rock is the second album by H.E.A.T, carrying on the direction of the debut while gaining polish and scale. Released, like its predecessor, on StormVox, it pushes to the front the appeal of Scandinavian melodic rock built around Kenny Leckremo's soaring voice and Jona Tee's glittering keyboards. The album won high praise at home and abroad, including a place on Classic Rock magazine's Top 50 of the year. Edguy's Tobias Sammet guesting on “Black Night” also speaks to the band's standing in the scene.
“We're Gonna Make It” and “Beg Beg Beg” drive hard with energetic hooks, while “Who Will Stop the Rain” closes the album on a lyrical note. Across all thirteen songs, catchy choruses and the joy of nimble rock and roll run throughout. Yet this became the last album of Leckremo's first tenure. Carrying a heart condition, he left the band that year, and Erik Grönwall, winner of a popular Swedish audition show, was brought in as his successor. Concentrating the bright appeal of early H.E.A.T, it is an accomplished work that marks a turning point.
