Liner Notes
Promise Land is the fourth album, on which Giant reaffirmed the strengths of melodic rock through rich choruses, tidy guitar and an emotive ballad sense. On this 2010 Frontiers release, Dann Huff — busy with production — stepped away from the official lineup, and Terry Brock (vocals) and Winger’s John Roth (guitar) came in. Original members David Huff and Mike Brignardello anchor the base, and Dann Huff still contributes co-writes and lead guitar on “Believer (Redux)” and “Save Me.”
Terry Brock’s soaring singing, reminiscent of Steve Perry, sits well against wide-open choruses and soft arrangements. From the lift of the opener “Believer (Redux),” through the ballads “Through My Eyes” and “Our Love,” to the racing “Prisoner of Love” and “Double Trouble,” classic Giant character stays consistent. Rather than flash, it’s the kind of record to savor for the quality of the singing and the grace of the ensemble — a high-quality, satisfying comeback. The opening rebuild of “I'm a Believer” is a treat for longtime fans.
