Sol Invictus

The title is Latin for the unconquered sun. This is the first Faith No More studio album since Album of the Year in 1997, the longest gap in the band's career, released on 19 May 2015 as the first record on their own Reclamation! Records. It is also the first since Angel Dust in 1992 made by exactly the same line-up as the album before it. The reunion was announced on 24 February 2009 and The Second Coming Tour went out with the Album of the Year line-up. That June they played Download in Britain, Hurricane and Southside in Germany, Greenfield in Switzerland, Hove in Norway and Roskilde in Denmark, and in February and March 2010 the Soundwave dates in Australia. Along the way they added full covers to the set: Michael Jackson's "Ben", Vangelis's "Chariots of Fire" and "Switch" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. This was their fifth record with Matt Wallace, though here he helped with the final mix rather than producing outright. It opens quietly with the title track and then changes scene song by song through "Superhero", "Cone of Shame" and "Motherfucker", which is exactly how their earlier albums were built. The order here is the standard ten tracks; the Japanese edition (HSE-30351) carries eleven.
