Liner Notes
Rainmaker is the second album, deepening Fair Warning's transparent melody and lyricism with more settled playing. Released on WEA in April 1995; where the debut was entrusted to Rafe McKenna, this time the band produced it themselves. Tommy Heart's soaring singing and Helge Engelke's delicate guitar give the songs a rich afterglow. Ule W. Ritgen's flowing bass supports the drive, and C.C. Behrens's drums anchor the base.
While keeping hard rock's force, every song holds both loneliness and warmth. From “Burning Heart” — the band's first single and video — to “Don't Give Up,” “Angel of Dawn,” “Rain Song” and the nearly seven-minute “Desert Song,” consistently strong material lines up. In Japan it passed 140,000 copies and earned a gold disc, cementing the band's popularity; in Europe a Dutch magazine named it album of the year. Acoustics carry more weight than on the debut, and AOR elements are stronger. Polishing their own virtues carefully — a fine European melodic rock record.
