Age of the Joker is a work on which EDGUY added hard rock’s lightness and humor to power metal’s elation. Centered on Tobias Sammet’s expressive singing, weighty riffs and big choruses create drama. It is a record on which the band’s signature stylized beauty and playfulness balance at a high level.
On “Robin Hood,” “Nobody's Hero” and “Pandora's Box,” the songs, while grand in stance, are somehow accessible, with a relaxed playfulness. The long “Robin Hood” is an epic that lets you fully savor dramatic development. Songs like “Breathe” and “Two out of Seven” breathe the band’s full melodic sense too.
