Liner Notes

Dizzy Mizz Lizzy is the debut, released in 1994. The band had formed in October 1988 in Copenhagen. At first they rehearsed instrumentally while looking for a singer, and in the end settled on Tim Christensen doing it himself, with Martin Nielsen on bass and Søren Friis on drums. Their first concert was in Valby in December 1989. From 1991 they entered the Danish rock championship and reached the final three years running before finally winning it in 1993. They spent the prize money on a four-track demo, which got played on Danish rock radio and led to a contract with EMI. Nick Foss produced. What followed was abnormal: a run of hits in "Barbedwired Baby's Dream," "Love Is a Loser's Game," "Waterline," "Silverflame" and "Glory," four Danish Grammys including Best Danish Group, and five-times platinum. It passed 250,000 copies in Denmark — and sold 100,000 in Japan. Even the girl on the sleeve has a provenance. The band's official mascot, "Dizzy," comes from a sepia photograph of Christensen's maternal grandmother's older sister, taken in the 1930s.
