LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the band's first record for Nuclear Blast, and the first recorded and produced at Abyss Studio in Sweden by Peter Tägtgren. The writing itself is not far from the previous album, Stormblåst, but the quality and the aggression of the sound go up a clear step, and that together with the new label's promotion is what turned the band into a widely known one.
It is also their first full-length album with lyrics entirely in English. It is the last with keyboard player Stian Aarstad and the first with bassist Nagash. "Master of Disharmony" and "Raabjørn speiler Draugheimens skodde" are re-recordings of songs that had appeared on Devil's Path and For all tid respectively.
The sleeve carries the band's second logo for the first time, though the older black metal logo is still on the back of the original pressing. At Nuclear Blast's request, the lyrics of "Tormentor of Christian Souls" were left out of the booklet. The vinyl was limited to three hundred white and a thousand black copies, and a deluxe CD with bonus material followed in 2002. The running order here is the original's as printed.
