The Coffin Train

This is the eighth album by the band from Stourbridge, released by Silver Lining Music on 24 May 2019. Asked about the title by Adrian Hextall of MyGlobalMind, singer Rasmus Bom Andersen said it came from an image out of a dream, or a nightmare: an old steam train with coffins for carriages, body parts flying out of it, racing away from the horizon like a nuclear mushroom cloud, a dystopian end of the world. He took it as his subconscious telling him how he feels about the state of the world. Writing started at the end of 2016. In January 2017 Brian Tatler and Andersen began working at Andersen's home studio, bringing ideas and building on them. The opening "Belly of the Beast" was written there from scratch by the two of them and was the last song finished for the record. They then took the songs to the band, worked out the arrangements and tempos, and went into the studio. Andersen wrote most of the lyrics while the band toured the United States and Canada, and edited the drums on a laptop during the same tour. After it they went back in for bass, guitars and vocals, finishing in 2018. He did the orchestration and the mixing at home, which took several months and was not done until September. Videos were made for the title track, "Belly of the Beast", "The Sleeper" and "Death by Design"; the animated one for the title track was produced by All4band Motion & Design Studio under Maria Goruleva's direction.
