Liner Notes
Something Wild is the debut on which CHILDREN OF BODOM bound high-speed guitar and keyboards, rough vocals and classical melody all at once. Even as the songs run fiercely, there is vivid flair in the solos and phrases, so it does not end merely dark. An ominous worldview drawn from Finland’s Lake Bodom, the origin of the band name, runs throughout.
On “Deadnight Warrior,” “Lake Bodom” and “Touch Like Angel Of Death,” the momentum of the sound, roughness included, becomes the band’s very personality. Songs like “In The Shadows” and “Red Light In My Eyes, Pt. 1” breathe an early rough appeal too. Alexi Laiho’s virtuosic technique and neoclassical melody already stand out. It is a vivid starting point where technicality and young recklessness coexist.
