Heavy Pendulum

Heavy Pendulum is the seventh studio album by Cave In, of Methuen, Massachusetts, released on 20 May 2022 through Relapse Records. It is the band's first album with Nate Newton on bass and backing vocals. The late bassist and vocalist Caleb Scofield, who died in 2018, is nevertheless present on it: the riff of the opening "New Reality" is one he wrote in 2011, and the lyrics of "Amaranthine" are his as well. The band signed to Relapse in July 2021 and announced that their seventh album would come out on the label. The title was revealed with the single "New Reality" on 15 March 2022, followed by "Blinded by a Blaze" on 5 April, "Blood Spiller" on 26 April and "Reckoning" on 10 May; the last of those was written entirely by guitarist Adam McGrath. Kurt Ballou of Converge produced it, as he had the band's debut Until Your Heart Stops. Revolver described the opening "New Reality" as leaning into the quartet's sludgier inclinations. The order here is the fourteen tracks of the American CD, RR7490; the Japanese edition (Daymare Recordings DYMC388) carries fifteen.
